OK, so Raja Bell is not from North Jersey and, to be honest, he is not technically even from the United States nor has he even played organized football. They don't play it much in the Virgin Islands. But what Raja Bell is is a professional athlete who logs on to NJS.com and we needed a known commodity for our Top 11. Bell needed our antics like a hole in the head, but none the less, he brings you the latest football rankings.

Tuesday, November 4, 2003

1. DON BOSCO PREP (7-0) -- Bosco was tested for a half at St. Joseph, but Michael Ray Garvin's interception and subsequent touchdown put the game away and the second half was all Ironmen. After topping Hackensack and St. Joe's, the two teams considered to have the best shot at an upset, by a combined 105-17, Bosco gets what amounts to a playoff tuneup this week when it hosts Paramus.
LAST WEEK'S RANK: No. 1 NEXT GAME: Friday vs Paramus, 7

2. ST. PETER'S PREP (8-0) -- Prep took advantage of four Bayonne turnovers, including Kee-Ayre Griffin's interception near his own goal line that turned into the Marauders' score that iced the game, to win its fourth straight Hudson County championship. St. Peter's could be headed for a rematch of last season's Parochial Group 4 semifinals against No. 1 Don Bosco.
LAST WEEK'S RANK: No. 2 NEXT GAME: Friday at Snyder, 7

3. RAMAPO (8-0) -- The Raiders' annual showdown with Wayne Hills turned into a 41-0 showcase for Ramapo's offense and defense, which pitched a shutout and held the Patriots to just 115 yards of total offense. Ramapo will likely be the No. 2 seed in the North 1, Group 3 sectional playoffs.
LAST WEEK'S RANK: No. 3 NEXT GAME: TBA vs. First Round Playoff opponent

4. BERGEN CATHOLIC (6-1) -- The Crusaders knocked off defending state champion Montclair, 54-6, last weekend for their fourth straight win. BC gets Paramus Catholic this week before a likely matchup against Hudson Catholic in the opening round of the Parochial Group 4 playoffs.
LAST WEEK'S RANK: No. 6 NEXT GAME: Saturday vs. Paramus Catholic, 1

5. ST. JOSEPH (6-1) -- The Green Knights drop a spot after losing to No. 1
Don Bosco Prep
in a game that was close for a half. SJR had the ball and were behind by just seven points late in the first half before a turnover oped the flood gates to Bosco's romp. But there were plenty of positives in the close loss against one of the state's best teams and a top seed in the North 2, Group 4 bracket is still a possibility. LAST WEEK'S RANK: No. 5 NEXT GAME: Friday vs. Memorial, 7

7. PATERSON CATHOLIC (8-0) -- PC blew out Lodi, 55-0, last weekend and has only Manchester left on the regular season schedule. The Cougars have already sewn up the top seed in the Parochial Group 1 bracket. If Morris Catholic can't win its way into the postseason this week with a win over Dwight-Englewood, PC will gets byes all the way to the state championship game.
LAST WEEK'S RANK: 7 NEXT GAME: Saturday vs. Manchester, 1

8. WEST MILFORD (8-0) -- With its win over rival Lakeland last weekend, West Milford just about locked up the top seed and home games for as long as it lasts in the North 1, Group 3 state sectional playoffs.

9. HACKENSACK (4-2) -- Hackensack rebounded from consecutive losses to Don Bosco Prep and St. Joseph's with a 35-3 win over Bloomfield. The Comets could still grab as high as the second seed in the North 1, Group 4 sectional playoffs. LAST WEEK'S RANK: No. 9 NEXT WEEK: Friday vs. Kennedy, 7
