OK, so Raja Bell is not from North Jersey and, to be honest, he is not technically even from the United States nor has he even played organized football. They don't play it much in the Virgin Islands. But what Raja Bell is is a professional athlete who logs on to NJS.com and we needed a known commodity for our Top 11. Bell needed our antics like a hole in the head, but none the less, he brings you the latest football rankings. |
1. Don Bosco Prep (1-0) -- It's only Week 2 and already it is getting redundant. Bosco blew out another opponent -- a good team at that -- when it blasted defending sectional champion Montclair, 56-7, on Friday night. Brian Toal scored four times and Michael Ray Garvin blocked two punts and scored on a 55-yard run. LAST WEEK'S RANK: No. 1 NEXT GAME: Saturday at Bergen Catholic, 1
2.
St. Peter's Prep (2-0) -- Prep made its annual showdown with Hoboken a
laugher on Friday night by pounding the Red Wings, 41-0, in Hoboken. The Marauders
totalled more than 300 yards of total offense as Kee-Ayre Griffin scored three
times and Rashawn Jackson scored twice.
LAST
WEEK'S RANK:
No. 2 NEXT GAME: Saturday vs. Dickinson, 1
3.
RAMAPO (2-0) -- Ramapo made it two straight blowout wins to start the
season with a 57-20 romp over Bergenfield in Franklin Lakes on Saturday night.
The Green Raiders travel to Mahwah this week and should get a stiffer test.
LAST
WEEK'S RANK:
No. 3 NEXT GAME: Friday vs. Mahwah, 7
4.
HACKENSACK (1-0) -- The Comets had a bye week to get ready for Eastside
but probably won't face their first real until they host Bloomfield next weekend.
LAST
WEEK'S RANK:
No. 4 NEXT WEEK: Saturday at Eastside, 1
5.
ST. JOSEPH (2-0) -- Just what the competition needed, another Green Knight
running back that can burn a defense. With Jason McCourty emerging as a top
back to go along with established speedster Ron Girault, St. Joseph blew out
Bloomfield on Friday night and have an off week to get ready for Barringer.
LAST
WEEK'S RANK:
No. 5 NEXT GAME: Oct. 4 at Barringer
6.
BAYONNE (2-0) -- The defending state sectional champion Bees have picked
up right where they left off a year ago. In two games Bayonne has scored 105
points and have allowed zero. The Bees will face their toughest opponent so
far when they host Emerson (UC) this week.
LAST
WEEK'S RANK:
No. 6 NEXT GAME: Friday vs. Emerson (UC), 7
7.
BERGEN CATHOLIC (2-0) -- If any team is going to give No. 1 Don Bosco
a challenge this season it will likely be either BC, St. Joseph or Hackensack.
The Crusaders, after tuning up by routing Eastside, 40-6, will get the first
shot at Bosco in the annual showdown that will be played in front of as many
fans that can squeeze onto the Oradell campus.
LAST
WEEK'S RANK:
No. 7 NEXT GAME: Saturday vs. Don Bosco Prep,
1
8.
LAKELAND (1-1) -- After starting the season with a loss -- albeit an impressive
one -- against State-ranking Delbarton, Lakeland got its first 'W' of the
season on Saturday, 35-13, over Millburn. The Lancers will visit Passaic Valley,
which dropped out of the Top 11 with a three-point loss to West Orange, on
Saturday in an interesting NHC-Skyline Division matchup.
LAST
WEEK'S RANK:
No. 8 NEXT GAME: Saturday at Passaic Valley,
1
9.
INDIAN HILLS (2-0) -- Two games, two wins over defending state sectional
champions. After opening the season with a stunning upset of Wayne Hills,
the Braves followed it up with a 10-7 win over Ramsey, the defending North
1,
Group 2 state champion. A short week faces the Braves this week as they travel
to Old Tappan for a Thursday game.
LAST
WEEK'S RANK:
N/R NEXT GAME: Thursday at Old Tappan
10.
SADDLE BROOK (2-0) -- Just like last season, the Falcons won their annual
regular season showdown against Glen Rock. This time around Saddle Brook is
hoping that the regular season success translates into a state sectional title,
which is within reach this year.
LAST
WEEK'S RANK:
N/R NEXT GAME: Friday vs. Waldwick, 7
11. EVERY OTHER TEAM (2-0 or 1-0) -- that is still unbeaten
DROPPED OUT: Glen Rock (0-1), Passaic Valley (1-1),
PREVIOUS RANKINGS: WEEK 1 |
