OK, so Raja Bell is not from North Jersey and, to be honest, he is not technically even from the United States nor has he even played organized football. They don't play it much in the Virgin Islands. But what Raja Bell is is a professional athlete who logs on to NJS.com and we needed a known commodity for our Top 11. Bell needed our antics like a hole in the head, but none the less, he brings you the latest football rankings.

Monday, September 29, 2003

1. DON BOSCO PREP (3-0) -- Bosco handed Bergen Catholic the most lop-sided loss in its history, 49-8, on Saturday in front of a packed house in Oradell. Brian Toal now has 12 touchdowns in three games this season, more than many good teams in the area.
LAST WEEK'S RANK: No. 1 NEXT GAME: Saturday at Kennedy, 1

2. ST. PETER'S PREP (3-0) -- Prep is pounding the competition so far this season. With its 65-0 blanking of Dickinson on Saturday the Marauders have now outscored their opponents by a combined score of 136-0.
LAST WEEK'S RANK: No. 2 NEXT GAME: Friday at Ferris, 7

3. RAMAPO (3-0) -- How's this for offensive production from the starting backfield? Raider running back Gianluca Rangone carried the ball 18 times for 189 yards and two TDs, fullback David Silberstein added two scores on five carries and QB Charlie Granatell completed 9-of-15 passes for 177 yards and 3 TDs as the offense rolled up 414 total yards in a 49-21 win over Mahwah.
LAST WEEK'S RANK: No. 3 NEXT GAME: Friday at Old Tappan, 7

4. HACKENSACK (2-0) -- Hackensack cruised past Eastside on Saturday, 34-8, and its next two games figure to be tune-ups for its chance to take a swing at No. 1 Don Bosco Prep. The Comets get Bloomfield and Passaic at home before traveling to Ramsey on October 17.
LAST WEEK'S RANK: No. 4 NEXT WEEK: Friday vs. Bloomfield, 7

5. ST. JOSEPH (2-0) -- The Green Knights had a bye week and will travel to Barringer this weekend. The schedule toughens up after that with Ridgewood, Paramus Catholic, Hackensack and Don Bosco Prep lined up in a row.
LAST WEEK'S RANK: No. 5 NEXT GAME: Saturday at Barringer, 1

6. BAYONNE (3-0) -- Last season Bayonne had a good team. This year the defending North 1, Group 4 sectional champ is proving it has a solid program. Led by QB Ken Jaworski and running back Jerome Hayes, the Bees rolled to a 30-0 halftime lead on the way to a 42-0 blanking of Emerson (UC) on Friday. Bayonne has scored 147 points this season while its defense is yet to allow any. LAST WEEK'S RANK: No. 6 NEXT GAME: Friday at North Bergen, 7

7. BERGEN CATHOLIC (2-1) -- Despite a 49-8 home loss to Don Bosco Prep this past Saturday, BC stays put in the poll. Bosco is that good and the schedule is in the Crusaders' favor after the upcoming bye week. Look out Kennedy.
LAST WEEK'S RANK: No. 7 NEXT GAME: October 11 vs. Kennedy, 1

8. SADDLE BROOK (3-0) -- A week after the emotional win over five-time defending state champion Glen Rock, the Falcons took care of business with a 19-0 win over Waldwick. Next up is Elmwood Park then comes a visit to No. 9 Passaic Tech.

10. PATERSON CATHOLIC (3-0) -- Paterson Catholic has shown off its diverse offense in its perfect start. The Cougars have put up 103 points in the last two weeks with 48 of them coming this past week against Midland Park. Waldwick, which has an 0-3 record to show for being competitive in all three of its games against Passaic Tech, Midland Park and Saddle Brook, should provide a challenge this week.
LAST WEEK'S RANK: N/R NEXT GAME: Saturday vs. Waldwick, 1

11. RUTHERFORD (2-0) -- The Bulldogs erased a 14-point halftime deficit in its opener against Westwood, then scored 22 points in the fourth quarter to end Cliffside Park's 19-game BCSL-American Division winning streak. LAST WEEK'S RANK: N/R NEXT GAME: Friday at Fort Lee, 7

DROPPED OUT: Lakeland (1-2), Indian Hills (2-1)
