JERSEY CITY – When 11th seeded St. Mary’s (Jersey City) pulled a first-round upset over Morristown-Beard and 14th seeded Oratory did the same in toppling third-seeded Montclair-Kimberley Academy, it seemed like there was some divine intervention. With St. Mary’s closing its doors for good in June, the pair of upsets game the Ramblers one last home game. It was supposed to be a celebration of St. Mary’s four senior starters, who have been in the lineup for the past three seasons. However, Oratory’s backcourt of Scott Miller and Kevin Zychowski were not interested in a feel good story in Jersey City. Miller and Zychowski shot the lights out throughout, but especially in the first quarter. The dynamic duo combined to hit nine of their 10 first-quarter shots as 14th Oratory took the lead three minutes into the game and never gave it back. The Rams advanced to the Non-Public North B semifinals for the first time in school history and closed the book on St. Mary’s final season with a 66-52 win on Friday at St. Mary’s High School in Jersey City.
