RIDGEFIELD PARK – To put it bluntly, Ridgefield Park’s Connor O’Grady could not wait to get out of bed on Thursday morning and get through the school day. He knew when that final bell rang that he would get the ball in the Scarlets’ most important game of the season to date, and maybe the program's most important game since 1998, a first-round Bergen County Tournament tilt against New Milford. It was a feeling of excitement he took with him all the way until the first pitch before his mood changed. The junior right-hander had to find a way to channel all that adrenaline in order to lead his team to victory in its first appearance in the county tournament in 14 years. It did not hurt that O’Grady got plenty of help from shortstop Derek Hyland, who made a pair of crucial plays, both coming on double steal attempts. Hyland slipped under a tag at the plate on one double steal and threw out a New Milford runner out the plate trying to score to keep the Scarlets ahead before their bats busted out in the sixth inning. The outburst was highlighted by a two-run homer from Sean Sniffen as 15th-seeded Ridgefield Park moved into the Round of 16 with a 9-1 win over 18th-seeded New Milford at New Overpeck County Park.
