BASEBALL:Confident PCT wins a third straight thriller

WAYNE – Last season was a down one for Passaic County Tech baseball, but not because of a lack of talent. It was an inability to close out games that led to just five wins in the 2011 season. With back-to-back thrilling victories behind them heading into Friday, the Bulldogs had a chance to make a statement against a Clifton squad that had just beaten perennial power Don Bosco Prep last week. Down by five runs going into the bottom of the fifth, chances of another PCT victory looked quite bleak, but there is a new attitude around the program and this is now a never-say-die ball club. Kevin Brito’s three-run homer in the fifth helped the Bulldogs get back in the game and a Joel Polanco double later in the inning tied it up. Polanco was just getting started, however, as he stepped the plate again and lifted a sacrifice fly to bring home Juan Reina with the winning run as PCT equaled its win total from last year in style with a 7-6 victory over Clifton in Wayne. “We never felt like we were going to lose this game and we never gave up,” said Polanco.
